HUMANITARIAN CRISIS
In April 2024, Save The Children delivered 92 tonnes of vital medicines to Afghanistan to treat 675,000 people, including children with life-threatening but preventable illnesses after a huge surge in respiratory infections and measles last year.
The medicines were donated by the Dutch Relief Alliance, the European Union Humanitarian Aid, the German Federal Foreign Office, USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and Save the Children’s internal Humanitarian Fund, among other organisations.
Afghanistan is in desperate need of medicines, pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
Afghanistan is in a humanitarian crisis…
- The Taliban government are failing to provide for the people.
- The country relies on external help, often provided by NGOs.
- Active Pharma is working with partners to be part of a solution.
Together we can ensure that both the NGO’s and the people of Afghanistan can get access to medicines and healthcare.

AFGHANISTAN BACKGROUND
Following the regime change within Afghanistan in 2021, the country’s healthcare system has been severely impacted. The lack of sufficient healthcare, supply of medicines and medical aid has caused a major impact to the health of the Afghan people and in particular women and children, leaving the population vulnerable to disease.
- More than 18 million Afghans – around 40% of the population – have very limited access to healthcare.
- Since the beginning of 2024, more than 1000 children under the age of five have died after contracting pneumonia and 88% of these deaths have been caused by respiratory infection.
- The number of cases of measles among children under five has also risen by 44%.
- In April 2024, Save The Children delivered 92 tonnes of vital medicines to Afghanistan to treat 675,000 people, including children with life-threatening but preventable illnesses after a huge surge in respiratory infections and measles this year.
The medicines were donated by the Dutch Relief Alliance, the European Union Humanitarian Aid, the German Federal Foreign Office, USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and Save the Children’s internal Humanitarian Fund, among other organisations.
